Waste Minimisation and Prevention
We aim to use natural resources more efficiently, minimise the production of waste, harmful air emissions and water discharges and recycle or reuse where possible.
When it comes to waste management, we look to prevent or reduce waste generation wherever possible so that there is less impact on the environment.
Essentially, we believe in the three 'Rs':
- Reduce
- Reuse
- Recycle
Disposal of waste to landfill sites is always our last resort, which is why we continue to recycle, reuse or value-add the majority of the solid waste materials we generate. We do this by:
- Recycling materials such as aluminium, scrap metal, glass, PET, cardboard, paper, plastic scrap and photocopier and printer toner cartridges
- Defaulting corporate printers to double-sided printing
- Selecting paper products for their recycled content
- Selecting building products for their recycled or recyclable content
- Initiating cleaner production programs involving continuous improvement of systems and employee involvement
- Purchasing materials in bulk containers rather than bags or small drums
