Water Conservation
Healthscope has focused many of its business practices on conserving water. Hospitals are typically large users of water fundamentally because of the need to maintain the highest standards of hygiene and sterile environments.
While efforts to reduce water-use in sterilisers continue, with the introduction of efficient washers and cycles, Healthscope is also looking at other areas of the business.
How we're conserving water
- Replacing many of our gardens with water-wise native plants. These native plants also contribute to an increase in native fauna.
- Teaming with water authorities around the country to conduct water usage surveys and replacing shower heads and taps with low flow devices.
- Implementing new, water efficient processes and purchasing water efficient equipment. For example, new cooling towers, sterilisers and filtration equipment.
- Reviewing our processes that use water and applying efficient production principles to continuously reduce consumption.
- Installing rain water tanks to collect water from building roofs and re-using the water, for example in cooling towers.
- Installation of water recycling systems in our CSSDs to capture the water from our sterilisers.
